Dear Monsieur,

We DO have a drink dilemma and we adamnantly believe you can be of immense help. Although it may seem excessively procedurial, we think it indispensable that we state some very basic facts.

We have recently formed our own country which is called Lizbekistan.

We had our first cabinet meeting on june 29, 1996, at which time we regretted not
having been able to appoint an expert talented enough to create the celebratory cocktail necessary
to inaugurate this illustrious occasion. In view of this appalling state of affairs we have been
obliged to postpone our next cabinet of ministers meeting. We now turn to you with our greatest
respect and admiration and ask you to award us with a fraction of your precious time and in so
doing bless us with one of your transcendental cocktail recipes.

Perhaps you might find worthy of attention the fact that our ordinary citizens are very fond of
strawberries and pork , but we have a very small elite who prefer vodka and carrots. And we must
add as far as our ministers are concerned they simply follow the customs of our princess i.e. : le 'petit lait' de pink flamingos and pomengranates. Could this possibly be of any help?

Our especially respectful regards
Princess Liz IX

P.S. It may very well not be necessary to mention the fact that Lizbekistan is a VIRTUAL country.

P.P.S. We hope to count you as an honorary citizen of our country by virtue of outstanding behaviour.

We will have to call it a
....
...another free drink........
...Better Late Than Never. Just kidding. Once you take the first sip let me know what you have decided to call it. If you want something bitter, like grapefruit juice try this 1 1/2 ounces lemon vodka
1/4 ounce cointreau
dash of Campari
1/2 ounce fresh squeezed lemon juice.
Garnish with three,
( or whatever number you deem appropriate),
pomegranate seeds.

If that is too dry and it is sweet and fruity your are looking for try this.

1 1/2 ounces lemon vodka
1/2 ounce cointreau
dash of fresh grenadine,
made from real
pomegranates, not red sugar water
1/2 ounce lemon juice.

Both of these drinks should be prepared like a sidecar.

If you want a little more red in the drink try this. Pour grenadine into a saucer, just enough to cover most of it. On another saucer do the same thing with roses lime juice. Carefully dip one half the rim of a glass into the roses and the other half in the grenadine doing your best to not mix them. Then roll the glass in a plate of superfine sugar. If you have done your job correctly you will have a sugared rim half red and half white. Another note. If Maraschino is available to you you can substitute it for the cointreau in the previous two recipes.

My first born was due to day but it looks like she might be late. Wouldn't it be ironic if it was on your anniversary?

Either of these drinks will go nicely strained over ice with a splash of soda water on top.And a note about grenadine: I just read that "We're currently searching for a MiddleEastern product that is said to be made from real pomegranate juiceand citric acids. If our hunch is correct, this syrup would be a great substitute for grenadine. " Well the product you're looking for is called "dibs rumen" or something like that. I've never tried to write it down before. It is available in Syria (quite excellent), but not in Egypt, so I would think that it more Levantine than North African. It's also available in virtually every ME grocery store in the U. S. Just ask for dibs or pomegranite syrup. It's most used as a flavoring in stew-like dishes, sort of like a substitute for 1/2 a lemon. Hope this helps. Let me know if you can.
